Bridge Scoring Example 1

Here we will reinforce what we learned about Bridge scoring by looking at an example rubber.

On hand 1, West is declarer at 4♣ doubled. 4♣ doubled is written 4♣X. North-South get 100 undertrick points for defeating 4♣ doubled by 1 trick. Since East-West aren’t vulnerable, it is 100 points. If they were vulnerable, it would instead be 200 points.

On hand 2, East-West get 40 trick-score points for making 2 with West declaring. They get no bonus points because for extra tricks, because they made the contract exactly.

On hand 3, West was the declarer again. He made 3NT exactly. East-West score 100 trick-score points. East-West now have a total of 140 points. East-West win the game. A thick line is drawn to start the next game. East-West are now vulnerable.

On hand 4, South is declarer at 3♠ doubled. She makes 3♠ exactly. North-South score 180 = (2 × 90) trick-score points. They also score the 50 point insult bonus for making a doubled contract. This is 100 or more trick-score points, so North-South win a game. A thick line is drawn again. Now both partnerships are vulnerable.

On hand 5, South is declarer again. This time at 6 She takes 11 tricks instead of the 12 she needed. East-West get 100 points for the single vulnerable undertrick.

On hand 6, South declares 3. She takes 10 tricks. North-South score 60 trick-score points for making the contract, and 20 more in the bonus column for the overtrick.

On hand 7, North declares 4♠. She takes 11. Tricks. North-South score 120 trick-score points for the contract, and 30 bonus points for the overtrick. North-South have now won 2 games. The rubber ends, and they win a 500 point bonus. The final score is 1060 to 240.
